The Institute for Justice is seeking a full-time, in-house, multimedia journalist to join our award-winning production team located in the Washington DC area.
This unique role will document and tell stories about everyday Americans who want to earn an honest living, own and enjoy their property, speak freely, and give their children a good education but find that the government is standing in their way.
Because we are a 501(c)3 organization, stories will not include national politics, the executive branch, etc.
The Multimedia Journalist will work individually and as part of a 2-to-3-person team to plan, shoot, and edit video content in our office’s studio or while traveling. A small sample of our team’s past work can be found here:

The candidate should be well-versed in composition, lighting, and handheld camera work. We seek an individual who is agreeable, well-organized, enthusiastic, and team oriented. A passion for helping people and comfort interacting with other staff is a must.
Other required skills/experience includes:
*Must provide an online demo reel and individual finished projects showcasing previous work upon applying. If applicable, feel free to add any past on-camera work. Applicants without a reel and/or demo work will NOT be considered.

Other required skills/experience includes:
- 2-6 years of professional experience as a video journalist, filming documentaries and/or other non-narrative projects.
- Experience working with tight deadlines.
- A portfolio that demonstrates understanding of storytelling, lighting, and composition for video.
- Familiarity with:
- Professional cameras (Canon Cinema or similar)
- Lighting and grip
- Editing with Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolve, or similar.
- Drones (or a willingness to become an FAA certified pilot)
- Practical on-set experience is a must.
- Ability to lift 50-pound equipment bags.
- Flexibility to travel, sometimes on a weekly basis.
- Audio editing and post-production color work experience is preferred but not required.
